So, I know I haven't been blogging much lately, and there's a reason. Mike's grandfather has been very, very sick, and hasn't been getting better. About 2 weeks ago, he was put into the hospital for renal failure. He stopped eating, and slept pretty much all day, every day. It's been really hard on Mike, because his grandparents basically raised him.
His grandmother called yesterday to let us know that the doctor's had said he wasn't going to be getting better. He could either enter a rehabilitation facility with 24/7 care, or go home and have hospice 24/7. The doctors recommended the facility.
But being the stubborn man that Al was, he wanted to go home. He was tired of hospitals, tired of facilities, just tired in general. The doctors made the decision to send him home Monday, where hospice would meet him and help him.
Mike and I laughed at the thought of hospice "helping" Al. He's very independent, and HATES being helped with anything.
We got the call this morning. Al passed away at around 8AM.
Al was the sweetest man I've ever met. He was hilarious, and would have me laughing for hours when we went to visit him. He was stubborn, and I know that's where Mike got it from. Even when we saw him in June, and we could tell he was progressively getting worse, he was still his normal self. He was one of the greatest men I've ever met, and I was lucky to know him.
Al, you're already missed, and you've only been gone a few hours. My heart breaks knowing that the world doesn't have you in it anymore.
We love you.
