It can.
She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed.
There is.

Mara Dyer wakes up in a hospital room, surrounded by nurses and her parents, but she can't remember how she got there. She is soon informed that there was an accident, one in which her best friend, boyfriend, and boyfriend's sister died, but nobody knows what happened. Nobody except Mara, but the memory is locked tight inside. When she gets out of the hospital, she and her family all move to Florida to give her a fresh start while she copes with her post-traumatic stress syndrome. The move doesn't help when she starts seeing her boyfriend's sister in the mirror looking back at her and sees her (supposedly dead) boyfriend in a crowd.
She also meets and falls in love with the most popular guy at school, Noah Shaw. Noah is the boy every girl wants to hate, but can't help but be attracted to, and Mara is no exception. He's the "playboy" of the school, the boy that every girl has hooked up with or at least tried to, so Mara tries hard to avoid him, but it becomes harder and harder the more Noah pays attention to her.
It's hard to write a quick synopsis of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer without giving away too many spoilers., so I'll just end it with this - Once Noah and Mara meet, tons of strange, creepy, paranormal things start happening.
I finished this book in a day. All 450+ pages of it, it was that good. Of course, there were some things I wasn't crazy about, as with most books, but they were minor. I found it odd that Noah all of a sudden has a big secret of his own once Mara tells him about the visions she's been having. I kind of predicted it, at least to the extent that there was more to him than he was letting on, but I didn't think it was going to be what it was.
But overall, I loved this book. I was on the fence about reading it for some reason, but I'm so glad I did. It was a fantastic story.
The second in the series, The Evolution of Mara Dyer, is being released this year, I think sometime in October. I will definitely be rushing to Barnes and Noble to pick up a copy!

ReplyDeleteI agree! I wasn't sold on reading it, but once I started I couldn't stop. Definitely check it out.
DeleteI also loved Mara Dyer so much! Glad you love it too :D I was finding something odd about Noah's ability too actually, and a lot questions about the real identity of Mara. And that cliffhanger ending, ugh! I hope it would get more explanation at the next book, already can't wait!
